The performance gods are smiling today. This morning, Porsche announced that they'd be debuting the fastest and most refined 911 GT3 ever at the Geneva Motor Show-- which is just over a month away.

Some 10 years after its introduction, the naturally aspirated, rear-engine GT3 hits new heights of speed and handling thanks to extensive use of motorsport-derived technology and practices.

Porsche says they've boosted the car's offerings in two key areas-- namely performance and driving dynamics. The flat-six engine has grown to 3.8 litres of displacement, and engineers have specified adjustable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust cams. The modifications are good for 20 horsepower more than the outgoing model, with output totaling 435 ponies. Torque has increased significantly in mid-RPM situations as well.

Expect 0 to 100 kmh in 4.1 seconds, 0-160 kmh in about 8.2 seconds and a top speed of just over 310 kmh. Anywhere in between, the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) helps ensure a deeper grip on the road with stiffened components, while a stability management system helps keep the car on its best behavior in the hands of enthusiastic drivers. The stability management system can be deactivated in various steps as needed.

Aerodynamics have been modified to create more than double the downforce of the former model, and central-locking wheels and ultra-high performance tires further help glue the car to the road. The brake system has been enlarged, lightened and better ventilated, too.

There are even available active engine mounts which stiffen up in a track setting to improve standing-start traction and handling.

Does the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 sound like the machine for you? If so, you've got till October to come up with about $138,000.
