After BMW decided to withdraw the MINI Clubvan from the U.S. market due to extremely low sales volumes (50 units since launching earlier this year), its Corporate Communications director in Canada confirmed that the model will soon stop being sold north of the border as well.

Reasons for the lacklustre performance of the MINI Clubvan include a small cargo capacity (33 cubic feet vs. 129 in the Ford Transit Connect) and the 25% tax on commercial vehicles (known as the “Chicken Tax”).

Don't feel too sorry for MINI, though: Sales of the Clubvan remain strong in other markets, many of which offer tax incentives for small commercial vehicles.
