Those who fear that large SUVs are negative to the global well being of the planet won't be happy to hear that Ford's most economical vehicle, the compact Focus, only increased in sales by 3.5% in February. (Photo: Ford of Canada)

Blue oval top players were the compact Ford Escape having its best February ever with 18.6% growth, the midsize Ford Explorer that saw a sales increase of 32.9%, the restyled full-size Ford Expedition whose sales grew by 44.7%. The Lincoln Navigator's increase made everything else look like it was standing still, with a 184.2% growth in sales last month.

A few Ford and Lincoln car nameplates are worthy of mention too. Ford's Focus moved up the sales charts by 3.5% while Mustang sales rose by 4.6%. The recently upgraded Town Car received a 30.7% increase in popularity as well.

Obviously rising fuel costs aren't deterring Canadian consumers from buying large, with the biggest percentage increases coming from Ford and Lincoln's full-size segments.
