R-R Targets 1,000 Phantoms per Year for 2004
If one of Detroit's Big 3 or a major European automaker had only managed 500 unit sales in the space of nearly one year heads would roll, but in the rarified league of stratospherically expensive ultra-luxury cars 500 is something worth celebrating.

Such was the case when Rolls-Royce Motor Cars completed the 500th Phantom at the BMW division's Goodwood, England factory.
All employees gathered around the 500th car for a group photo, after which a cake dimensionally proportionate to the car was devoured by all attending.

Chairman and Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Tony Gott commented, "It has been an incredible 12 months for everyone at Goodwood. The team has produced tremendous results in an extraordinarily short space of time and we are all rightly proud of what has been achieved. We are now looking forward to another successful and exciting year."
The Phantom's initial unveiling was at Goodwood a year ago this month, with production starting at only a single car every two weeks. November of last year saw five cars per day leaving the factory, showing a major improvement in productivity.
Rolls-Royce is targeting 1,000 units per year starting in 2004, the luxury marque's centenary year by the way, which should be maintained throughout the model's lifespan.
