The first Saab 9-4X crossover rolled off the assembly line of the Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico today, three months after its initial unveiling at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Marked with the chassis number 00001, the Aero model is powered by a 2.8-litre, 300-hp, turbocharged V6 and will be featured in a media trial event in the U.S. before being shipped to Sweden, where it will be exhibited in the automaker’s museum.

Jan Åke Jonsson, president and CEO of Saab, attended the event. “The arrival of the 9-4X is another important step in the fulfillment of our business plan. This sporty and distinctive product will significantly broaden the appeal of our brand and give us access to an important new vehicle segment that is still growing, particularly in the United States”.

Designed to take on the Audi Q5, Lexus RX, BMW X3 and Cadillac SRX in the luxury segment, the model will go on sale in the U.S. sometime in May, and possibly in other markets around the world, including Europe, in August.
