Other mechanical changes include a clutch that's easier to depress and doesn't have to go in as far, manual transmission fluid that doesn't need to be topped up, an oil change monitor, and larger, better-handling base tires on SL, SL1 and SC1 -- P185/65R14 replacing P175/70R14.
There's a new instrument panel with a different cluster of gauges, new interior fabrics for the sedan and wagon, and revised the heater/air conditioner controls.
The console has been reconfigured to facilitate an improved cup holder in front, a rear cup holder, and articulating armrest, and a coinholder.
There's also a new steering wheel with the horn button in the middle, door map pockets with storage for pop cans, and new door trim and new seat style on the sedans and wagons.
To make it easier for taller occupants, more seat track travel has been added to the front seats of the SL, SW and SC.
Other changes of note include the Passlock II passive security system being made standard on all models, anti-lockout protection incorporated into the computer, the alarm has been added to trunk for enhanced content protection, and the parking brake has been given a warning chime to indicate it's still engaged if the car is moving.There's also a new family of radios, which has a CD standard on SL1 and up levels.Saturn S prices start with the SL sedan at $13,588, the base SC1 coupe sells for $16,743, and the SW2 wagon for $18,783.
