The second day of testing for NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway was better than the first. The wind had died down but it was much colder.

Nonetheless, in the morning, Carl Edwards (Ford No 99B) drove the Roush-Fenway Sprint car to the fastest speed of 184.256 mph. He was closely followed by David Reutimann and Kyle Busch, both on Toyota 00B and 18, Matt Kenseth on Ford No 17B and Tony Stewart and Brian Vickers also both on Toyota (20A, 83B).

Jacques Villeneuve (Toyota 27A) picked up a little on speed at 181.014, the 45th of the day but Patrick Carpentier struggled with his Dodge No 10A at 179.474, the 66th of the day.

The story was different in the afternoon. Rolex 24 winner Juan Pablo Montoya was in better shape that the day before and so were a lot of Dodges. Montoya drove his No 42 A Dodge at the fastest speed of 186.761 mph. But he was still followed by a Toyota, the No 84A driven by A.J. Allmendinger.

This time, Patrick Carpentier did learn from veteran co-driver Kasey Kahne who drove the No 9B Dodge at the fourth fastest speed. Patrick drove his No 10A Dodge at the 21st fastest speed of 183.561.

Jacques Villeneuve kept struggling with his No 27A Camry posting the 50th speed of 181.696, which was better than his No 27B car that went 180.911 mph for the 60th speed.

But according to Jeff Gordon, these tests do not tell it all. We'll have to wait for real racing situations. So, Sprint Cup drivers are moving to Fontana in California for two more days of testing on Thursday and Friday.

Nationwide drivers will hit the Las Vegas oval today and tomorrow.
