It's now official: Canadian Jacques Villeneuve, the 1997 formula 1 world champion will contest the full 2009 season of the Speedcar series this winter.
The contract was signed today, Wednesday and Villeneuve was already on his way to the Dubai race circuit.
The 37-year-old Canadian will contest the entire 2008-2009 season of the Speedcar series in a car prepared by the Italian-based GP2 team Durango
Villeneuve contested a couple of races during the inaugural Speedcar series in 2008, won by fellow former F1 race winner Johnny Herbert, last year.
The Speedcar is a spec series using former NASCAR Nationwide cars powered by 6.2-litre V-8 motors. The series only features road courses, no ovals.
The second season begins this weekend in Dubai.
Jacques Villeneuve said to Auto123.com that his priority remains to compete in one of the top NASCAR series in 2009.
