THORNHILL, ON Now that spring has finally arrived, it's time to get your car in shape. CAA Central Ontario, Canada's largest auto club with one million members, has some tips to help you get your vehicle ready for the warmer months ahead.
"This long winter is finally coming to an end and it's time to start thinking about tuning up your car for spring," said Carey-Ann Greenham, spokesperson for CAA Central Ontario. "Our cars have endured so much over the past few months of being in snow, slush, salt and freezing cold temperatures. A spring inspection of your vehicle can help you save money by spotting problems early."
CAA Central Ontario has some tips for motorists to help keep their cars running properly for spring:
- Check tires for cracks and uneven or excessive tread wear. You can use a ruler and stick it in the tread grooves, measuring around the tire to ensure the tread is same thickness all the way around. Make sure all tires, including the spare, are inflated properly.
- Every spring get an air conditioning performance check to maintain that it's working 100 per cent to the best of its ability.
- Check your oil levels. If you plan on towing a heavy trailer or boat this spring and summer, we recommend that you switch to a motor oil with higher viscosity. Check the owner's manual for specific oil recommendations.
