Despite the continuing success of the Nationwide Series race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, the Sprint Cup is not coming so fast.

While racing fans, especially in Montreal, are delighted about the highly possible return of the Canadian Grand Prix to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve next year, it will be some time before they’ll see NASCAR premier-level Sprint Cup cars racing in Canada.

The enthusiasm and endurance of the people -- who came out to watch qualifying in the rain and sit through the lengthy delays in Sunday’s race -- impressed NASCAR president, Mike Helton, who explained on ESPN television it was important to run the entire race.

“We agreed that we would try to run the balance of the race, the fans are great incredibly supportive of this event.”

Despite the positive vibes from this past weekend NASCAR’s 36-race Sprint Cup schedule (plus exhibition races) is full for now.

"The Canadian fans are some of the best anywhere on the schedule,” NASCAR spokesman, Ramsey Poston, told Auto123.com

“This has quickly become one of the highlights on the NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule and we've made to really feel at home. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Schedule is pretty much full and I don't anticipate any expansion at this time.”

François Dumontier, promoter of the NAPA Auto Parts 200 told Auto123.com on Sunday: “Hosting a Sprint Cup race here in Montreal is definitely on our plans. We’re working in it. I don’t think it’s for the near future, and we’re working really hard at making the Nationwide race a huge success first”.
