Brazilian driver João Victor Horto on Sunday won his first Star Mazda Championship race at the Mosport International Raceway in Ontario, Canada.
Horta had started the race in fifth position but took advantage of a fight between Connor De Phillippi and pole-sitter Sage Karam to take the lead and built a gap of 2.690 seconds to the finish line.
De Phillippi took the second position despite leading half of the race and surviving the 'wheel banging' battle with Karam who finished sixth after na contact bent his suspension.
Tatiana Calderon completed this podium, her second this season. Florida native Nick Andries and French driver Tristan Vautier completed the top-5 of this race.
Mosport's top finisher in the Experts Series, for drivers aged 30 and older, was Walt Bowlin who finished in 13 position of 14 entry cars.
Vautier still leads the championship's standing with 217 points compared to 211 for Connor De Phillippi and 203 for Andries. Horto is 4th in the standing with 202 points, Karam taking 5th with 201.
The next race will be in the streets of Trois-Rivières, Québec, on the weekend of August 5-7.
