French driver Tristan Vautier has won a third race this season, at Infineon Raceway, in California. He finished almost 10 seconds ahead of closest rival Connor De Phillippi.
Vautier did not have it as easy as it appears however since this gap is only due to a spin by De Phillippi in the last lap of the race. The duo has battled up front with never more than one second separating them during the first 29 laps.
Third place finisher Nick Andries was far back with a 19 seconds gap to De Phillippi even after his spin. Sage Karam came back from 6th on the grid to 4th at the finish line. Tatiana Calderon rounded-up the top-5.
AMA Superbike star Larry Pegram won the Expert class race from 12th place. J.W. Roberts, 14th in Sonoma, still leads the class' championship.
This victory means Vautier increases his championship lead by four points for a total of 347 points. De Phillippi is second with 328 points.
There are two races left to this 2011 season. One next weekend in Baltimore and a final one at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on September 18th.
