This new concept looks almost production-ready

The all-new Subaru Ascent, unveiled on Wednesday at the 2017 New York Auto Show, is another design study foreshadowing the Japanese brand’s future midsize SUV. Compared with the VIZIV-7, it moves a couple of steps closer to the real thing.

Also embodying the “Dynamic x Solid” design theme, the Subaru Ascent illustrates 3-row capability with full functionality. The main dashboard looks super-modern, while the middle row consists in a pair of captain’s chairs. A huge panoramic sunroof covers nearly the entire cabin.

From a technical standpoint, there’s the new Subaru Global Platform along with a newly developed, direct-injection turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine. The massive 21” wheels likely won’t be carried over to the production model, however.

The Subaru Ascent will be manufactured at the company’s U.S. plant in Indiana and introduced exclusively to the North American market in 2018.
