We already know that the production version of the Toyota FT-86 concept will be sold as the Scion FR-S, but what about Subaru's own variant? Today, the Japanese automaker finally ended the suspense by announcing the BRZ.

These three letters stand for ''Boxer engine'', ''Rear-wheel drive'' and ''Zenith''. The name embodies ultimate passion for the new sports car and confidence in its distinctive trademark and core technology: the horizontally-opposed Subaru Boxer engine.

Unfortunately, no pictures of the BRZ were released. However, production will start next spring, so interested buyers can rejoice: there's light at the end of the tunnel!

Toyota and Subaru have been working together for about two years on the model that pays tribute to the iconic AE-86.
