NASCAR's Sprint Cup teams ended their testing session in the West on Friday. Many teams ran the evening session of Thursday at the California Speedway in Fontana and with the cooler air came fast speeds.

Roush-Fenway drivers were up there with Carl Edwards (Ford No 99A) running as fast as 181.228 mph. Matt Kenseth (Ford No 17A) was second at 181.036 mph and Michael Waltrip (Camry No 55A) third at 180.918 mph.

Jacques Villeneuve (Camry No 27A) was a lot better than the day before and ran the 13th fastest speed at 179.051 mph but Carpentier (Dodge No 10B) was the slowest at 175.392 mph.

On Friday morning, Edwards (Ford No 99A) picked up where he left off the evening before and once again was the fastest at 180.495 mph. Reed Sorensen and Ryan Newman, both on Dodges, were second and third.

This time, Carpentier (Dodge No 10B) ran the 21st best speed at 178.213 mph. Villeneuve did not participate in the Friday test session. Carpentier had to skip the afternoon session. He had done four of the five sessions, the maximum allowed by NASCAR.

In the afternoon, only 15 drivers ran the session that was dominated by Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48A) at 179.497 mph followed by Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch. Next stop, Daytona.

In the news. the other Gordon, Robby, just announced he was switching from Ford to Dodge to take advantage of the technical and marketing help from Gillett Evernham (GEM). Gordon specified that Ford was a great help in the past but, as a small team, he needed more and GEM was able to help him out.
