Once again, Auto123.com will be heading to the Great White North, exploring parts of the Arctic that very few would ever dare to venture, in the winter, in a Porsche. Last year, Matt St-Pierre hopped on the smart fortwo bus all the way to Inuvik in the North West Territories. The diminutive fortwo never faltered and, unfortunately, Matt came back...

This year, we're going at it again. This time, he, Lesley Wimbush and Rob Rothwell will each cover a leg of the Arctic Route Adventure at the wheel of many versions of the Cayenne. We realize, however, that Matt's chances for returning this time around are even better than the last.

This edition of the Arctic Route Adventure is the sixth in a series that has had a group of four (now six) highly motivated Italians tackle some of the most demanding roads in Europe. From Pesaro, in North Eastern Italy, they have travelled to Norway twice, Iceland, Scotland and Ireland. This will be the first time they will reach the arctic on North American soil.

Porsche Canada's Manager of Public Relations, the always smiling Laurance Yap, has decided to support the Arctic Route Adventure team and include a few select (we like to think so) members of the press in the conquest of the North, making a national event out of this fantastic escapade.

The road less travelled will take Matt from Vancouver all the way up to Whitehorse. In three days, the Cayennes will cover roughly 2,800 km.

Next, Lesley will ride with the convoy all the way to Anchorage. From Whitehorse, they will literally climb to the top of the World, to Deadhorse (check it out on Google maps). From there, they will make their way down to Alaska's largest city. Remember, Juneau is the capital. This six-day trek will put a tad over 3,500 km on the Cayennes.

Last and occasionally least (we’re kidding), Rob will barrel his way back down from Anchorage to Vancouver. His stay with the tribe will also last six days and just under 4,000 km will be travelled.

They (and we) will be bringing you regular updates from the road as the members of our team will be armed with a camera, a lap-sized laptop, 3G Internet connection, and the promise of working Internet in the lodging facilities we’ll set foot in. The guys and gal will be writing in with blog-style comments and stories every day and will be sure to keep us wanting more with breathtaking pictures.

The Adventure begins tomorrow.

And this week, we’ll cherish these precious few days without Matt in the office.
