At the last Consumer Electronics Show, Audi had announced its intention of developing a high-speed connection for its vehicles in 2011. Well, the automaker kept that promise, presenting to the media a new prototype of the A8 featuring an LTE broadband Internet connection. It’ll now be as quick on the web as it is on the road.
The system, created by Alcatel-Lucent, transfers data even faster than the DSL and 3G technologies currently widely used by telecommunications companies.
Passengers can now benefit from transfer rates up to 100 Mbits per second, a significant improvement over the 14 Mbits offered by 3G. Technicians streamed high-definition video in the car to demonstrate the system’s efficiency.
Audi board member for Technical Development Michael Dick confirmed that the technology will be included in mass-produced vehicles.
