MG-Rover Group - it pawned off Rover (and MG) some years later due to high costs and poor sales. It had been suggested that BMW wanted to experiment in the World Rally Championship, and found that the MINI was the perfect tool, an icon in rallying history. Having developed several mock-ups of a 4X4 rally version, the entire project was canned after BMW sold MG-R. Should BMW give the special all-wheel drive system the green light, surely the Monte Carlo, and all other all-wheel drive derivatives - including the SUV, and a Jeep-like 'Moke' model - may follow.
