Trouble is, subtly, you've just sent the message to all of those previous (and, again, we're talking in the millions) Grand Am drivers that their cars are crap; unworthy of their lineage carrying over to another generation. Ouch.
Don't get me wrong. Some of these new cars are excellent products. The G6 is probably one of Pontiac's best efforts. The ol' Cavalier can't hold a candle to the new Cobalt and Optra, which GM is tag-teaming to replace its long standing best seller.
However, money spent marketing new brand names could (should!) be pumped back into making the product better. Right?
Subconsciously, you're not buying "the best Regal ever", you're getting the "worst LaCrosse/Allure".
