Well-built, powerful and capable, the Rivian R1T/R1S twins are also rather expensive.

It’s a simple fact - that power, tech like on-board air-compressors, adjustable suspension, massive displays, fully vegan interior, all of that doesn’t come cheap.

Rivian is upfront about it, the EV maker builds adventure vehicles, and that’s fine. Trouble is, many adventurers can’t afford to drop six figures on their vehicles. The R2 aims to change that by aiming squarely at the ultra-popular Tesla Model Y in terms of power and size. And, perhaps most importantly, price; watch for these “baby” Rivians to fall closer to the $50,000 range, compared to the $100,000 range like the R1.

Speaking of Tesla, the R2 will be the first Rivian model to support the new NACS charging standard, meaning owners will be able to make use of the Tesla Supercharger network.

When is the Rivian R2 coming?

Production of the R2 won't start until 2026, so this is still sitting on the far horizon.
