Toyota will recall 6.5 million vehicles worldwide due to a problem with the power window switch, NBC reports.
Inconsistent lubrication during the manufacturing process may accelerate wear from the electrical contact points. Debris can accumulate and cause a short circuit. As a result, the switch may overheat and melt, potentially leading to a fire.
The recall targets 2.7 million cars in North America, 1.2 million in Europe, and 600,000 in Japan. Affected models were built from January 2005 to December 2010 and include:
- Yaris/Vitz;
- Corolla;
- Camry;
- Matrix;
- RAV4;
- Highlander;
- Tundra;
- Sequoia;
- Scion xB.
