Toyota Canada has announced the 2000 sticker prices for its new Echo econobox.

Echo replaces Tercel at the bottom of Toyota's cast of characters, so it carries the lowest sticker prices of all. There are 2- and 4-door models available, with manual and automatic shifters, and all are propelled by a 16-valve, 1.5-litre inline-4 that delivers 108 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 105 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm.

A base 2-door Echo with the 5-speed manual transmission carries an MSRP of $13,835, while the unit with the 4-speed automatic costs $14,835.

Echo 4-door starts at $14,175 for the 5-speed manual and goes to $15,175 for the 4-speed automatic.

Every Echo includes such features as 13-inch wheel covers, two-speed wipers, an AM/FM stereo/cassette, dual vanity mirrors, a digital clock, cupholders, door map pockets, an accessory power outlet, and storage trays under both front seats.

Air-conditioning is an extra $1,230 on any model.

On Echo 2-door, there's one other big option -- the Style Package, which brings the base price to $15,245 for the manual and $16,245 for the automatic version and includes 14-inch tires and wheels, color door handles and bumpers, fender flares, a rear spoiler, intermittent wipers, manual remote outside mirrors, bodyside cladding and a CD player.
