The Japanese auto giant made history last Friday when the five-millionth Camry rolled off the assembly line at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky (TMMK). The milestone car was a 2007 Camry LE 4-cylinder.
While few people know that the Camry name means "little crown" and that the car was introduced in 1983, Toyota makes sure no one forgets that this midsize car has been the number one selling sedan in America four years in a row and eight of the last nine. The all-new 2007 model marks the sixth generation and is actually being built in eight different plants around the world.

TMMK officially began operating in May 1988 and has produced approximately 6.7 million vehicles to date. It is Toyota's largest manufacturing facility in North America, with a current capacity of 500,000 vehicles and engines annually.
Along with the Camry, the plant also manufactures the Avalon sedan, the Solara coupe and convertible, V6 and four-cylinder engines as well as engine components. The 2007 Camry hybrid will be added to the assembly lines beginning in October.
