Toyota's latest milestone: 7 million hybrids sold

By ,

As of September 2014, Toyota has sold 7 million hybrid vehicles worldwide since the first Prius was released on the market. What's even more impressive is that the last million hybrids were sold in just nine months.

Including hybrid vehicles launched this year, Toyota will introduce a total of 15 new hybrids globally through 2015.

The automaker today sells 27 different hybrid models and one plug-in hybrid model in more than 90 countries and regions. In the U.S., Toyota and Lexus offer 12 hybrid models and one plug-in model, which account for 70% of industry hybrid sales.

Mother Nature couldn't be happier. To date Toyota hybrid vehicles have resulted in approximately 49 million fewer tons of CO2 emissions – and saved 4.75 billion gallons of gasoline – than would have been emitted or used by gasoline-powered vehicles of similar size and driving performance.
