The two streams of performance driving became evident early on when Tony Sr. had me shooting for the apex of each curve while instructing me to avoid clipping the red and white painted curb that most drivers like to fly over. He said, “my son will tell you to hit them, I like to avoid them”.

Sure enough, Junior had me following much more aggressive lines through the corners that included a solid whump over the lip of the painted curb. His style was fast and furious while Senior—true to his reputation—was fast and smooth.

I asked Tony Sr. if he or his son was faster on the track. With a chest full of confidence, he said “well, me of course”. And I have no reason to doubt him.

It was a fascinating day at Mission Raceway, in which two champion race car drivers made me feel like a hero behind the wheel of two amazing examples of “go fast” machinery. I came away with heightened respect for the exactitude and precision of the Porsche products, but more importantly, I came away with driving skills honed on a racetrack that translate into improved safety on the roadway.

You too can experience the skills learned on the track under the professional instruction of Tony Jr. and his team of expert drivers during Morrisport, ‘The Inside Line’ track days. First-timers are provided with classroom instruction prior to one-on-one mentoring on the track.

The skills learned safely on a closed circuit under direct supervision of the Morrisport pros are transferable to everyday driving. As I once pointed out in a blog, I’d rather fly with a cocky pilot who knows the limitations of his aircraft than with a conservative pilot who has never pushed the limits of man and machine.
