After a well-deserved summer brake, the auto industry’s main players are gearing up for a new auto show season, which will kick off in Frankfurt next month. Lamborghini will be joining the fray and unveiling what it considers the ultimate Gallardo.
It’s in fact a Super Trofeo, a limited production race car (30 units only) slightly tweaked to be able to legally conquer the road.
The Super Trofeo is based on the LP 560-4 and uses a redesigned chassis, a race suspension, a 562-hp, 5.2-litre V10 and a slew of light materials that allows it to tip the scales at 1,300 kg (2,866 lbs), i.e. 110 kg (242 lbs) less than the standard Gallardo.
Lamborghini is looking to retire the most-produced model of its lineup with flair and will pretty much espouse the same philosophy. The logical result will be 0-100 km/h accelerations in some three seconds, en route to top speeds of about 340 km/h.
A fantastic way to wrap things up while we wait for the Cabrera (the Gallardo’s successor) and various variations on the sublime Aventador.
