If Hyundai's predictions are correct, the Canadian car-buying public wants a large, high-tech and very powerful sedan from the acclaimed automaker- so they'll be delivering one in the near future.

Called the Genesis, Hyundai's upcoming full-sized sedan features the world's latest cutting-edge technologies employed for safety, luxury and performance. From a mere glance, it's apparent that the designers at Hyundai have put in some overtime on this one. Aimed at Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and BMW, the Genesis features a body adorned by some striking stylistic elements visible in the photos- but it's what's under the hood that's most impressive.

Hyundai's announced a company first- a V8 engine. The new "Tau" powerplant is a 4.6 litre unit, and it produces 368 horsepower- good for 0-60 in well under 6 seconds. Hyundai says the flexible Tau engine can be sized up or mated with forced induction as need be. A six-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, comprising a drivetrain setup that enables a nearly perfect weight balance to aid in nimble handling. A selection of smaller V6 engines will also be available.

Advanced technologies and features abound inside the Genesis, including heated and cooled seats, push-button start and self-leveling xenon headlights. On the safety front, Genesis boasts a rearward-facing backup-camera to avoid reversing accidents, as well as adaptive cruise control which can automatically detect and maintain a pre-set distance from another car in traffic. Buyers can also expect an HD Radio receiver, XM Satellite radio and a premium Infinity stereo system.

"While Genesis will compete for customers with cars like Chrysler 300 and Pontiac G8, our engineering benchmarks were Mercedes E-Class, Infiniti M, and Lexus GS," said John Krafcik, vice president of product development and strategic planning at Hyundai. "Genesis provides a potent combination of performance, luxury, and value. We think it has the opportunity to be an extremely disruptive force in the large sedan and near-luxury segments."
