Total sales for the month of October 2005 were of 115 195 units. The North American manufacturers suffered through their worst result in the history of the Canadian automobile industry. With a total 57,472 sales, they were beaten by the imports, which managed a total of 57,723 sales.

When comparing the months of October 2004 to 2005, the biggest winners were Land Rover with an increase of 92.5% principally due to the new Range Rover Sport. The #2 was Suzuki with a jump in sales of 41.7% thanks to the arrival of the new Grand Vitara. Honda, Audi and BMW round up the top 5 with gains of 34.1%, 27.7% and 24.1% respectively.

The worst performers were lead by Saab, Nissan, Ford, General Motors and DaimlerChrysler. Their losses were of 38.4%, 25.2%, 12.7%, 11.2% and 11.0% respectively. One of the highlights is the fact that Toyota outsold Ford by 474 units with a total of 13,720 cars and trucks vs. 13,246.

General Motors still managed to sell 29,332 units, more than #3 Toyota (13,720) and #2 DaimlerChrysler (14,894) put together.

So far this year, 1,345,271 new vehicles have found owners compared to 1,303,194 last year for the same period of January to October, a 3.2% increase.
