1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve has split with his long time manager Craig Pollock.
The pair have been friends and associates for decades, from his formative days in America's open wheeler scene, through their collaboration with the formula one team BAR, and most recently as Villeneuve, 36, forges a new career in NASCAR.
Now, mere weeks before the American tin-top season begins for 2008, the Canadian newspaper Journal de Montreal reports that Pollock and Villeneuve will no longer work together this year and beyond.
It is believed that Pollock's desire to remain based in Europe with his young family was the catalyst for the split, but there are also suggestions that his management style was proving an obstacle to Villeneuve's progress on the American scene.
"Craig has a new wife and he seems to want to concentrate on his new family life which will be centred in Europe," French-Canadian Villeneuve said.
"For my part, I choose to base myself here in Canada, with my family, in order to pursue my career as a NASCAR driver. It's going well so far with Bill Davis Racing. I want to concentrate on it and do my things here," he added.
