Volkswagen AG will launch 20 new plug-in hybrid or all-electric vehicles by 2020, CEO Martin Winterkorn announced. No stones will be left unturned as these models will cover all market segments – from compact cars to the next VW Phaeton and Audi A8.

He said Volkswagen AG already has the broadest electric fleet in the automobile world, and the largest connected vehicle fleet on the road, as well.

The German manufacturer also wants customers to benefit from automated driving technologies as quickly as possible: on highways, in stop-and-go traffic, and when searching for a parking space, for example.

“By 2020 we will have transformed all of our new cars into smartphones on wheels,” Winterkorn said.

One of the 20 new electrified vehicles could very well be the Tiguan GTE concept, which will debut this week in Frankfurt. Stay tuned for further details.
