After thorough examination, Volkswagen has confirmed that its vehicles with EA 288 diesel engines don’t have any software constituting an improper device to defeat emissions tests, as was the case with 11 million other cars around the globe.
What this means is that new vehicles of the Volkswagen Group offered within the European Union with those engines comply with legal requirements and EU5/EU6 environmental standards.
Volkswagen AG is systematically reviewing this issue worldwide to ensure the new engines meet the specific standards of every country.
The emissions scandal has cost the German automaker billions of dollars and severely tarnished its reputation. Top boss Martin Winterkorn even resigned, while other high-ranking executives were fired.
