The Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport, the most powerful GTI ever created, will make its global debut on Sept. 15th at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The company developed this special edition to celebrate the GTI’s 40th anniversary, just like they did for the 20th, 25th, 30th, and 35th anniversaries.

The production model is based on the GTI Clubsport concept showcased at Wörthersee back in May.

Performance comes from a 2.0L turbocharged engine that produces 261 hp – or temporarily 286 hp with the overboost function. The car accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.0 seconds with the 6-speed manual transmission, while the available 6-speed DSG is 0.1 second faster. Top speed is rated at 249 km/h.

In terms of design, the GTI Clubsport looks even sportier than the GTI with an Oryx White body and black roof. The front bumper, side skirts, and rear spoiler are all new, and the car rides on 18” wheels (19s are optional).

Inside, ergonomic sports seats with tartan fabric upholstery and red topstitching, a black headliner, and a golf-ball shift knob highlight the decor. We’re talking about folding racing buckets instead of typical sport seats, and they are partially covered with Alcantara.

Stay tuned to find out the price and global availability of the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport.
