Tiguan loved for refinement, sportiness
History/Description: The Volkswagen Tiguan is the German automaker’s shot at the likes of the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. With standard turbocharged power, 2- or all-wheel drive and sporty driving dynamics, Tiguan stands out in the marketplace as a sporty and exciting contender for the dollars of compact crossover shoppers.

Standard equipment included a 2-litre, 4-cylinder turbo engine with 200 horsepower, front-wheel drive and a 5-speed manual transmission. A 6-speed automatic was available, while standard on all-wheel drive models, which were labeled ‘4MOTION’. No optional engine is available.

Feature content included heated leather seating, a panoramic sunroof, navigation, rain-sensing wipers, a backup camera, Bluetooth and automatic climate control.

What Owners Like:
Tiguan owners typically rave about sporty ride and handling characteristics, impeccable fit and finish, classy styling, and a long list of bells and whistles. Small-car driving manners and manoeuvrability are also highly rated. Shoppers with manual-equipped models say they enjoy the slick-shifting gearbox, too.

What Owners Dislike:
Complaints of the Tiguan tend to be centered around minor interior rattles as the vehicle ages, as well as its requirement to run on premium gas. Some owners wish for better gas mileage and less boost lag from the engine, and many complain of limited cargo space in the back. Finally, some owners report a harsh or rough ride on some surfaces.

Common Issues With The Used Volkswagen Tiguan:
Start a test drive of the Tiguan with a full check of all interior electronics—including the power / heated seats, navigation system and all lights. If the model you’re considering has xenon lighting, be sure there isn’t a bulb burned out, as these are pricey to replace.

“Listen” to the suspension for signs of rattling or clunking on rougher surfaces, which may indicate a worn-out or failed suspension component. A full check of the tires and brakes for signs of excessive wear is also advised.
