Volvo will present its lineup of energy-efficient cars, known as DRIVe, at the 2008 Mondial de l'Automobile de Paris, which will be held from October 2 to 19.
The C30, S40 and V50 1.6 D DRIVe will be powered by a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine putting out 109 horses and 117 lb-ft of torque.
To earn the DRIVe title, these vehicles had to be drastically modified in order to improve their aerodynamics and lower their rolling resistance. Volvo's engineers also increased the transmission's gear ratios and optimized engine cooling.
The result? The Volvo C30 1.6D DRIVe consumes 4.4 L/100 km and emits 115 g of CO2/km, while the S40 and V50 1.6D DRIVe consume 4.5 L/100 km and emit 118 g of CO2/km.
Production of the C30, S40 and V50 1.6D DRIVe will begin by 2009. The vehicles will only be available in Europe.
