The Scandinavian carmaker says that the S80 combines Volvo's history of exceptional safety performance with groundbreaking new design work, handling, comfort and entertainment, all underscored by the traditional luxury the brand is known for.

Two engines are available to meet a variety of needs. The first is an inline six cylinder of 3.2 litres displacement which generates 235 horsepower. Available is a 4.4 litre V8 engine with 311 horsepower, delivering exceptionally smooth performance and confidence. Power from either engine is delivered to all four wheels with Volvo's electronically controlled all wheel drive system.

Power alone does not make a great car. For that reason, packaging some unique and cutting edge features together was important to cater to certain buyers. Volvo CEO Steve Blyth explains. "The S80 is extraordinarily well equipped, so we've carefully selected and packaged a small number of very appealing options for discriminating owners who want special touches in areas like audio systems, personal security and the luxury features that let them personalize their S80s."

These features include a Security Package which includes Active Cruise Control, a personal car communicator, Blind Spot Information System, and Collision warning system. Pricing for the Security package is $3,150.

Other optional features include perforated leather seats, the "Four-C" suspension system, parking assist, heated rear seats and active lighting as part of a luxury package priced between $3,250 and $4,350.

A premium DynAudio stereo package is available for $1,200-$1,300, while a DVD Navigation system and dual-screen rear entertainment package can be added to any model.

Pricing for the new Scandinavian flagship starts at $54,995 for the six cylinder model and $64,995 for the V8. Expect the S80 to hit a showroom near you this February.
