The first prototypes will be on the test tracks by the end of this year, after which some 200 units will be delivered to Siemens for testing and validation in real-life conditions.

A crashed Volvo C30 Electric turned out to be one of the showstoppers of the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Swedish company wanted to highlight the car's superior crashworthiness resulting from meticulously-engineered and positioned components.

Its 110-horsepower electric motor achieves a top speed of 130 km/h and a full charge in 10 hours.
