A few days before Christmas, Volvo will release the official photos of the S60 Concept that will be launched at the next Detroit Auto Show. The Concept is the precursor to the 2010 S60 sport sedan.

The S60 Concept's lines are inspired from those of a coupe but even more pronounced, while integrating Volvo's Scandinavian heritage. This heritage translates into a strong identity, a larger trapezoid grille and the use of new lighting technologies. Particular care went into designing the LED light clusters, inspired by the Viking longships, that create an expressive face.

The exciting sliding doors open onto an interior that is an ode to lightness. The seats don't touch the floor but are anchored into the centre of the car. The floating centre console ensures the necessary resistance, stretching from the dash board to the rear seat backs in a single hand-made Orrefors crystal block.

New technologies will be introduced on the concept. The revolutionary pedestrian detection system can apply full braking power if the driver fails to react to the warning. A new version of the cruise control will also be present.

Power will come from a 4-cylinder, 1.6-litre GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) engine generating 180 hp. Combined with other technologies, the mill can maintain a 5 L/100 km consumption rating while emitting only 119 g/km of CO2.
