- Also new are the world's first rearward facing child safety seat with ISOFIX attachments, which creates a smaller seat for babies up to the age of nine months and a larger seat for children aged between nine months and 3 years.
The range of engines in the new Volvo V70 is designed to service the demands of economy, power and performance. On introduction, there will be three 5-cylinder engines, and the range will be extended in the near future.
The high-performance version has the designation T5; a 5-cylinder, 2.3-litre turbo that develops 250 bhp and around 240 pound-feet of torque.
In addition to the T5, there is a 2.4-litre light-pressure turbo and a 2.0-litre turbo. Later, 5-cylinder normally-aspirated engines will also be added to the range.
All will be attached to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission designed specially for the 5-cylinder engine. The gearbox is adaptive, meaing it automatically adapts the shift points to the driver's style. A manual winter mode gives better starting capability and handling on slippery roads. Geartronic is the automatic transmission that also allows the driver to shift manually.
