New and ''evenmore comfortable seat designs from the A6'' have also been adopted by the A4,and these can be combined with new cloth and leather upholstery options. These seatsalso now feature slimmer, active-locking head restraints that automaticallyminimize the distance between the restraint and the head in a rear crashsituation.
Brushed aluminuminlays on the dashboard and doors and door sill trims with aluminum inserts areall part of the standard specification.
In the A4 Avant, thetailgate opens automatically to an overall height of 1.98 metres, exposing aload area with two floors -- the upper level being variable or removable. Itcan be folded to give between 377, 422 and 442 litres of capacity, with,respectively, the floor closed, partly open or totally open. The maximumstorage capacity with the rear seat folded is 1,184 litres
Under the floor ofthe new Avant there's a plastic tray attached to the body which can be used asan additional storage compartment or combined with the total luggage capacity.

The A4 Avant'sload area features a net for small items, chrome-plated load-securing lugs, acovered storage compartment and 12V power socket in the side panels, and anactive light in the tailgate that also illuminates the area behind the vehicle.
The load-areafloor is at the same height as the folded rear seat backrests, which deliversan almost-level luggage area. The luggage cover and the dividing net arelocated in a special space-saving housing attached to the wider part of therear seat backrest.
A load-areapackage is available as an optional extra, including a bag hook and a luggagenet which can be fastened to the four lugs provided to prevent movement ofobjects. A retaining strap in the right side trim can also be used to securesmaller objects and is adjustable to several positions.
