I was in Loudon, NH on August 13-14 to cover the return of the IndyCar series on the one-mile oval of New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Yes, there were fans in the stands – more than expected, actually – but of course not as many as a NASCAR Sprint Cup race.

The last few laps were Dantesque with drizzle forcing officials to stop the race. Moments later, they went against logic and everybody else's opinion by trying to restart the race.

As the track became slippery like an ice rink, four cars suffered serious damage during a pileup. Will Power, second in the overall standings, was beside himself and flipped the bird at the officials... live on television, which will get him a big fine.

Around noon, a number of journalists nearly choked on their lunch when IndyCar's top honcho announced that aero kits for the new cars have been delayed one year.

"I don't want to see us go from 25 to 15 cars because of the added expense of an aero kit. The owners were all concerned about this so we want to do what is best for them,'' said the IndyCar's CEO Randy Bernard.

The American economy once again finds itself in disarray, unemployment levels increase by the day and people are realizing that IndyCar has lost most of its roots.

In Indy Lights (The Road to Indy...), only four drivers out of 12 come from home soil, while in the main series, they occupy a mere 7 out of 27 spots on the grid.

Only those with solid sponsors manage to attract teams. The Americans, clearly, are not a part of them. It's pretty safe to assume that foreign drivers will keep dominating IndyCar races for years to come, much to the despair of fans who miss the golden days of Andretti, Foyt, Rutherford, Sneva, Mears and the like.
