Last Saturday night, the Civic Championship held its first annual gala at the Baccara Hall of the Montreal Casino. On hand were drivers, team members, series sponsors and a few special guests. Mr. Gunter Schmidt, director of the Championship (left picture), greeted all the English-speaking participants.
Meanwhile, Mr. Marcel Demers, the series' co-director and chief commissioner (right picture) did the same for the French-speaking guests in attendance.
After a short introduction, it's none other that Didier Schraenen who was in charge of the animation. As always, he was sharp and funny, giving stats and telling anecdotes on almost every driver. That guy never ceases to amaze me.
Many trophies and plaques were handed out to the drivers who managed to stand out during the inaugural season of the Civic Championship, which was revived by enthusiasts after Honda Canada announced at the end of the 2005 season its decision to stop sponsoring the now defunct Honda Civic Series.
The wives of Gunter and Marcel, Laura Schmidt and Nicole Choquette, were responsible for welcoming the guests and supervising the cocktail.
A few moments later, the driver standings were announced, from last to sixth place. It was then followed by an excellent dinner with four services.
The winners of the various trophies and plaques were honoured between the main meal and dessert.
