As you know, winter tires are mandatory in Quebec from December 15th to March 15th. The law, aimed at reducing the number of accidents during the cold season, applies to all taxis and passenger vehicles including rentals.
However, certain exemptions are provided for:
- the first 7 days following the acquisition of a passenger vehicle from a dealer;
- the 7 days preceding the expiration date of a long-term lease;
- passenger vehicles with temporary licence plates (X plate);
- passenger vehicles with a temporary registration certificate (transit);
- the spare tire of a passenger vehicle or taxi;
- motorcycles used as emergency vehicles (“emergency vehicle” as defined under the Quebec Highway Safety Code)
