Kimi Raikkonen could lose the sponsorship of Red Bull in the World Rally Championship next year, which could force the Finn to switch team in 2011.
Energy drink Red Bull has supported Kimi Raikkonen’s switch to World Rallying this season, paying for his first season with the Citroen Junior Team. But the Austrian sponsor is rumoured to be disappointed by Raikkonen’s lack of performance and would be reviewing its support for next season.
With Red Bull out of the equation, the former Formula 1 champion would have to invest his own money to drive in the WRC next year, which is very unlikely. However, the Finn could more likely set to join the Monster Ford rally team where he would be fully sponsored. Monster energy drinks would like to run Kimi Raikkonen in the team, alongside American driver Ken Block.
Raikkonen was also in talks with Prodrive about a drive in a MINI next year. But the British team revealed it will only compete in selected events in 2011 and has already put Kris Meeke under contract.
