Reigning World Touring Car Champion Rob Huff will defend his title driving a Seat Leon with newcomer team Münnich Motorsport, after eight seasons with Chevrolet.
Huff, together with his former team mates Yvan Muller and Alain Menu, were remaining without a seat following Chevrolet’s withdrawal from WTCC at the end of last year. The Brit is now confirmed to drive a Seat Leon ran by Münnich Motorsport, a team that will make its WTCC debuts this season after several years in GT racing.
This is a quite surprising move, as Münnich Motorsport already announced its drivers earlier on, with team boss René Münnich alongside Marc Basseng and Markus Winkelhock. But Winkelhcok finally decided to leave the team, which made room for Rob Huff’s arrival. Huff will drive a Seat Leon TDi for the first time in WTCC, after he drove a Seat Leon in the british Seat Cupra championship back in 2003, and a Seat Toledo in the British Touring Car Championship the following year.
Moreover, this announcement could means that Yvan Muller would stay in the RML team driving a private Chevrolet Cruze this season. The Frenchman recently revealed he will remain in WTCC this season, although he didn’t confirm with which team and with which car.
Ray Mallock’s team, that ran the works Chevrolet entry in WTCC since 2005, said it will soon revealed its plan for 2013, and is linked to a manufacturer entry (Renault ?) for 2014.
