WTCC: The teams tested in Spain

World Touring Car Championship teams Lukoil and Sunred (Seat), ROAL Motorsport (BMW) and Arena (Ford) completed several days of testing in Spain and Guadix in preparation for the 2012 WTCC season.

Monday, Gabriele Tarquini hit the track to test for the first time the 1.6 litre turbo engine developped by Seat fitted in his team Lukoil Racing Team Leon TDI.

Last week, the Italian driver missed the first outing of the new engine due to the heavy snowfalls in Italy, and was replaced by Jordi Gene who tested the car in Valencia.

Thursday, Tarquini was replaced by his teammate Aleksei Dudukalo in the Seat Leon TDI. Wednesday, it was Tiago Monteiro’s turn to hit the track with his team Sunred’s Seat Leon TDI.

Meanwhile, team ROAL Motorsport was also in action in Valencia for two days with its BMW 320 TCs.

Roberto Ravaglia’s team ran its number one driver Tom Coronel and newcomer Alberto Cerqui, who will make its WTCC debut this year.

Last week, team Chevrolet, the only works team this season until Honda’s arrival for the last rounds of the season, had two days of testing in Valencia with drivers Rob Huff, Alain Menu and reigning world champion Yvan Muller.

At the same time team Arena, which will launch the Ford Focus in WTCC, was also on track with Tom Chilton and James Nash. This week, the British team went to theGuadix circuit, located South of Spain before heading to Estoril for more testing next week.

The season will start March 11th in Monza. A collective test day will be organized three days before on the italian track.
