Lada will enter two works Granta in next year’s World Touring Car Championship for James Thompson and Alexey Dudukalo.
The Russian brand made its WTCC debuts in 2008 with the 110-model, then the Priora in 2008 and 2009. The constructor was back in the championship this season, when James Thompson ran four races with a Lada Granta in order to prepare next season.
Lukoil is involved in WTCC as main sponsor for both Seat Leon driven by Gabriele Tarquini and Alexey Dudukalo. The Russian driver will follow Lukoil to Lada, as Thompson remains the number one driver.
Lada Sport principal Victor Shapovalov commented: “We are very pleased and proud with Lukoil’s decision to support our WTCC programme. The whole team are very motivated and work flat out to develop competitive cars for our drivers. We are very excited looking forward to the start of the season. Testing said that the Granta is a fast car, with a powerful engine. We believe that Aleksei and James will be in the position to fight for top positions in every race.”
