Your phone could be your new alarm system

It was only a matter of time before someone came up with the idea of an app to monitor your parked car. While systems like OnStar and BMW Assist do so through dealer-integrated alarm systems, Intel is developing an app that would be aimed specifically at letting you know precisely who is near your car, how close they are and what they are trying to do.

The app would allow you to check on your car using your smartphone, showing you what's going on nearby via streaming video. This video footage is then stored to a cloud via WiFi the moment a motion sensor or alarm is triggered. You can also ask the system to notify you the moment the alarm is triggered and the video starts streaming, and there's talk of being able to call up the car's video stream as it's happening, so you can watch the perp in action.

No word yet on when such an app will be available, or which phones it will be available for. But, if our phones can do all they do already (as in, turn on your car, honk the horn, etc.) then why can't they act as security cameras and alarms as well?
