GM's just revealed a unique new vehicle concept that may represent a future model for the Chevrolet brand. Yesterday, the wraps came off the Chevrolet GPiX crossover coupe concept at the 25th Sao Paulo International Auto Show (SPIAS). The GPiX was conceived by GM's Brazillian design team, and may represent a potential new segment for GM in the Mercosur region.

"It offers the sporty design and versatility necessary for a country with the continental dimensions of Brazil," said Carlos Barba, General Director of Design for GM Latin America, Africa and Middle East.

Stylists have penned the GPiX with the trademark gold bowtie on its dual-segment grille, which itself is on par with North American models like the new Traverse and Malibu. A large, sweeping windshield rakes into a sleek greenhouse that features a panoramic roof for increased interior light and a roomier atmosphere. The concept photo also shows fog-lamps, roof-rails and large alloy wheels. With a two-door body style and high ground clearance, GPiX can readily tackle the road conditions found in emerging markets.

Inside, the concept boasts fold-flat seating for four and plenty of available space. The instruments use a modern and easy-to-read design set off by a multifunction steering wheel designed for complete driver-car interaction. Bluetooth and an MP3 player were fitted to the concept too- as were power windows, air conditioning and power steering.

Jaime Ardila, President of General Motors Brazil and Mercosur said, "with this project, the Chevrolet GPiX concept could result in the development of many models for Brazil and the Mercosur region".

The concept's interesting name is a pseudonym for "Global Image", with "G" standing for global and "Pix" meaning "picture" or "image".
