Volvo V70 Cross Country - 4X4 Ground Clearance and Sport Sedan Performance

Volvo seems to be doing everything right these days. They're attracting new buyer's who would have never considered purchasing the Swedish brand before, while still managing to maintain its faithful fray of old customers. What's the new attraction? They have a long heritage of solid, safe, reliable, sporty sedans and wagons, but haven't always designed them to be particularly pretty. Well that was then and this is now. Currently Volvo has one of the best looking product lines available, period.

The XC70 is no exception. It's clean, bold lines add muscle to those of the sleek V70 wagon, from which it takes its underlying design and engineering. A gray plastic grille surround, front and rear bumpers, fender flares and rocker panels hint at its SUV-like capability, while its increased ride height and meaty tires beckon it away from the safe confines of pavement and yellow lines. A ground clearance of 208 mm (8.2 in) bests many truck-based sport utilities, but adventuring through rough-cut trails or wading amid knee-deep creeks was hardly its intended purpose. Still, despite the lack of low-range gearing it's quite capable of mucking through fairly deep snow or traversing heavily rutted, muddy logging roads.
