You CAN get respect in a station wagon
Let me clear up one important thing before I commence this glowing review of such a fantastic automobile. Station wagons are cool! Yes they are! Car lovers such as myself can like SUVs and CUVs but they love wagons. If you're in your early thirties or older, most of your childhood family vacations probably involved long road trips in a what? A station wagon! That's right! How could we not love these things?

Yes, ask yourself that question if you are a member of the anti-wagon church. They are cars with a larger trunk, often better overall visibility and, in some cases, a rear-facing third row of seats. Again, I ask you: What is there not to love? The proportions? If you think minivans are cool, well... you're a lost cause. Think SUVs and CUVs are all that? Perhaps some are worthy such as the 2011 Kia Sportage or Jeep Grand Cherokee, but they often carry the SUV stigma and all lack the elegance that comes with the automobile.

Class Elegance
Speaking of things “E”, Mercedes' recently completely revamped E-Class has something for everyone. Being one of everyone, I'd spring for the wagon. On the north side of $50,000, the E-Class has but one alternative or rival and that is the Audi A6 wagon, now that the BMW 5-Series has been left on the east side of the Pond.

Draped in Calcite White, it is perhaps the best colour for any E-Class as it perfectly accents the car's creases, subtle flares and black-framed windowed surfaces. Aesthetically, I can find no flaws with this car's shape. If I had to make comments, I'd say bring back real fog lights and somehow integrate them into the lower-bumper LEDs and, in the case of my tester, I would have liked the AMG 18” 5-spoke alloy wheels. Really and truly, that's it. This car is gorgeous. And I'm not only one to think so as I, well the E-Class, got many looks as I cruised around and about. No, I'm not imagining things!

Regardless of what you think the sheetmetal is like, what really counts is how you feel once behind the wheel. Although this would seem obvious, it was my wife that steadfastly noted this self-evident fact in the past while I was test-driving an Acura TL...
